Interview with Abe Vizcarra...

insta5 is back! I had a busy couple of days with all of this amazing publicity! I absolutely love hearing from all of you, so don't hesitate to email me!

Today's interview is with Abe Vizcarra. Abe has followed me since the beginning of insta5 on He was very helpful and kind when I was just starting off and for that I really must thank him. Abe is a designer and has done work on some really cool projects. All of you should check out his awesome website here.

Q. How/why/when did you get into designing?

A. I've always considered myself a late bloomer when comes to design because I was far along down the road of a pretty successful radio career. It was cool but I never did get the tangible sense of making things which I always wanted. I've always been creative scheming ideas left and right but not until I stumbled upon design did I get to see things come to life in a different and special way.

Q. What to you, is great design?

A. Great design is a mixture of different things. It's informative and arresting, it's clear and concise, it gives the viewer an unexpected gift. It is part problem solving, part storytelling, part craft and a little bit of magic. When you mix it all together with blood, sweat and tears you get great design. To me, it's a process. As with anything that requires vision and action it takes time and practice, it takes risk, it takes trust. On the part practitioner of design and the recipient as well.

Q. You were one of my first twitter followers. Why did you follow me?

A. I followed you on Twitter because of your obvious passion for design at such a young age and wanted to encourage you in your efforts.

Q. What are you currently working on?

A. I am working on too many things right now. A branding project, designing a few mobile applications for a startup I'm involved with, web projects for a really cool agency in the Bay Area and microsite for a well known lifestyle brand.

Q. What computer do you use, and why?

A. My work is done on a 27 inch Apple iMac. It's fast, big and intuitive like me (except for the fast part).

That's all folks. Here is the wallpaper I designed for Abe. Purchase here.

Thank you Abe!
