Interview with Greg Christman(@gregchristman)

90.

Today we have a sweet set of five questions with Greg Christman. Greg is a seriously talented designer who has worked with amazing companies like New Balance, ECCO, Prince Tennis and many others. I love Greg's style, and his work is some of my favorite. Here is our interview.

How/why/when did you get into design?

I'd say I really got into design in middle/high school when I started playing in bands, making show flyers and album art. The punk and hardcore scene was such an inspiration to me. Also, we had a really great art program in high school which was great for me since I'm not very good at anything else. Then I found out people would pay me to make stuff look aesthetically pleasing. So... I said "screw academics I'm gonna draw!" My life story is somewhat of  cautionary tale of things NOT to do. I just got lucky.

If you could design one thing, anything, for anyone, what would it be?

I would go back in time and be a designer on the set of RoboCop. I'd give anything to design something for a Paul Verhoeven flick. Especially if I got to work on some of the fake commercials. I would steal so many props from the set. As a side note I've always had this idea in my head that someone, somewhere, has a magical job where he or she gets to just make fake logos for movies. I want that.

What does your workspace look like?

Currently using a 15" Macbook Pro Retina and an external display at home. At 160over90 I work on a 27" iMac.

What is your favorite TV show?

Overall I'd say LOST. It was such an amazing journey, regardless of what people think about the ending and not getting answers. I just loved the podcasts and theorizing along with friends. It was just a fun all around experience that I don't think can be recreated again. Currently I'm pretty invested in Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Homeland, Dexter and The Walking Dead... I'm also forced by my wife to watch Grey's Anatomy. I lead a very interesting life.

If you could say one thing to your ninth grade self, what would it be? Why?

Please don't dye your hair bleach blonde and spike it. It's not a good look for you.
